      The Ninth International Conference on Maritime Law will be held from 28 to 31 October 2018 at Shanghai International Convention Center, China as hosted by China Maritime Law Association and organized by Shanghai Maritime University. The theme of this Conference is “The Development, Reform and Innovation of the Ideas, Systems and Regimes of Maritime Law in the New Era”. We sincerely welcome the colleagues from domestic and foreign maritime law academia, maritime judicial circles, shipping industries and relevant governmental institutions to attend the Conference. The details are as follows:

1.  Conference topics

a. Reformulation of the lex maritima in the modern time & revision of the Chinese Maritime Code.

b. Protections provided by maritime law in the Belt & Road construction and in the economic globalization and trade liberalization.

c. New legal issues in shipping industryin the post-financial crisis era: ship financing security and cross-border insolvency.

d. Prospects of the Rotterdam Rules at its 10th anniversary.

e. Protection of cruise ship passengers’ rights and interests.

f. Fair treatment of seafarers.

g. New legal issues in marine environmental protection and sustainable shipping.

h. Legal issues in polar shipping and maritime safety.

i. Issues of maritime and shipping law and policy for facilitating transport: free trade ports and integrated transport.

j. Innovation of maritime dispute resolution mechanisms.

2. Conference papers and speeches

   We sincerely welcome the submissions of papers by colleagues from domestic and foreign maritime law academia, maritime judicial circles, shipping industries and relevant governmental institutions.

    The Topic Committee of the Conference shall be responsible for reviewing and selecting the submitted papers. All the selected papers shall be collected in the Conference proceedings. Some authors of the selected papers will be chosen as speakers during the Conference. 

 (a) The deadline for the submissions

      In order to facilitate the Topic Committee’s selection, editing and publication of the related papers, the deadline for submission is 31 August 2018. Please send your paper as an attachment to the following email address:icml2018@shmtu.edu.cn.

 (b) Requirements of format

     The papers shall be written in English.

     The papers shall contain: title, author’s name and service organization, abstract, keywords, introduction, text and conclusions.

    Footnotes shall be used and the reference style shall be “The Oxford Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities” at the conference website.

   The papers shall be edited using MS Word 2003 or above version and using “Times New Roman” as font.

3. Conference Registration

   The website for conference registration is available from today onwards. Please click "阅读原文” at the bottom of the notice and log on “icml2018.shmtu.edu.cn” to complete the registration. The registration fees are as follows:

   Please remit your registration fee by bank transfer to the designated account. Please log on the website and find the details of the account at the column of “conference registration”.

Please submit your bank slip via the conference registration system aftervalid payment for the convenience of our timely verification.
