Calling for Papers: The Ninth International Conference on Maritime Law

     The Ninth International Conference on Maritime Law will be held from 28 to 31 October 2018 at Shanghai International Convention Center, China hosted by China Maritime Law Association and organized by Shanghai Maritime University. The theme of this Conference is “The Development, Reform and Innovation of the Ideas, Systems and Regimes of Maritime Law in the New Era”. We are now calling for papers for the Conference and we welcome the submissions by colleagues from domestic and foreign maritime law academic circles, maritime judicial circles, shipping practice circles and relevant government departments.

1.  Conference topics 

· Reformulation of the lex maritima in the modern time & revision of the Chinese Maritime Code.

· Protections provided by maritime law in the Belt & Road construction and in the economic globalization and trade liberalization.

· New legal issues in shipping industry in the post-financial crisis era: ship financing security and cross-border insolvency.

· Prospects of the Rotterdam Rules at its 10th anniversary.

· Protection of cruise ship passengers’ rights and interests. 

· Fair treatment of seafarers.

· New legal issues in marine environmental protection and sustainable shipping.

· Legal issues in polar shipping and maritime safety.

· Issues of maritime and shipping law and policy for facilitating transport: free trade ports and integrated transport.

· Innovation of maritime dispute resolution mechanisms.

 

2.  Requirements of Format

· The papers shall be written in English. 

· The deadline for submission: 31 August 2018.

· The format:title, author’s name and service organization, abstract, keywords, introduction, text and conclusions.

· Footnotes shall be used and the reference style shall be “The Oxford Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities”, which can be found at the following website:

· Papers shall be edited using MS Word 2003 or above version, using A4 size and “Times New Roman” as font.

3.  Selection of Papers

      The Topic Committee of the Conference shall be responsible for reviewing and selecting the submitted papers. All the selected papers shall be collected in the Conference proceedings. Some authors of the selected papers will be chosen as speakers during the Conference.
